“Jeannie, you brought the light back to my life.”
Give me a break, you heartless bastard. Before she got here, you and me were fine. But you’ve forgotten all of that, just like you always traded up.

(All the Love in the World; Cat Sparks)

Is this possible to paraphrase it this way: "You've forgotten all of that, just like you always did."?
Or is this phrase "just like you always..." supposed to mean something different from just simply stating the fact that one has always been this or that way?

Thanks.

It's "just like you always traded up.". You can't take "just like you always" in isolation.

I didn't try to take it in isolation - "Just like you always...". The '...' was reserved for a verb. :)

But you’ve forgotten all of that, just like you always traded up.
But you have forgotten all of that (= the fact that you and I were fine) in exactly the way that you always traded up.

I assume that the 'trading up' was the abandoning of one girl-friend for a more attractive one.

I think it would have been clearer if the words had been "But you’ve forgotten all of that, just like you always did when you traded up".
