Kajol is very excited about her new film.

Is this a present tense? If so, I am confused why have we used third form of verb i.e excited.

In that sentence "excited" is an adjective.

bhai is correct. The verb "is" is a linking verb. "Excited" is a past participle which acts as an adjective and links back to the subject. So "excited" describes "Kajol".

The use of the word "very" is a good clue to the fact that the next word is an adjective. We don't follow "very" with a verb form.

There are a number of these adjectives made from both the past and present participles, which are sometimes referred to as participial adjectives.

My students also tend to mistake gerunds for some kind of progressive verb.

There's a quiz about the difference between adjectives and present participles on this very site, right here. With a bit of searching, I'm sure there's a lot more on the Internet.
