If i want to protect my privacy, I might write:

1. "Personal items were kept from prying eyes."
2. "Personal items were kept away from prying eyes."

Should it be "keep from" or "keep away from"? Both versions could be found on the web.

I would use "kept away from".
 
Or "hidden from".
