Hi.

Are my sentences with "known" natural and grammatical? They're from an unknown source and has been in my notebook for many years!

1) He is known on campus for refusing to join colleagues for lunch, choosing to eat by himself so he can keep working.
2) He was known for his reliability.
3) He was known as a reliable man.
4) He is known to the police because of his previous criminal record.

I think 2,3,4 are perfect, but "by himself" in the first sentence can be replaced by "alone". May I have your opinions?

Everything you wrote is correct.

I prefer 2 to 3. No.3 could also mean that people call him "reliable man".

I would word #3 as "He was known to be a reliable man" or just "He was known to be reliable".

They're all fine. Using "alone" would be fine, too.
