Hello,

I would like to know if the sentence I need to help with means what I think it means, that is, the sublime sight takes one off one´s feet by its beauty so one stops talking.

The mountain in the sunset had stopped the five couriers in a
conversation. It is a sublime sight, likely to stop conversation.

Tobe Read At Dusk by Charles Dickens, 1852

Thanks for help

Your question is unclear. What exactly are you asking ?.

Ok, if it is unclear I will try and put it in another way.

Does the sentence It is a sublime sight, likely to stop conversation mean The beauty of the sight makes one stop talking?

Yes, that's what it means, broadly speaking.

Teechar, please remember that we do not put a space before a closing punctuation mark and a single punctuation mark suffices. Your second sentence should say: What exactly are you asking?

Teecher simply made a mistake; I would really make no bones about such a triviality. :)

Teechar is apparently an English teacher. There should be no errors in his/her posts. You might not make a fuss about it. I do.

Johnny, the moderators here correct all of us and each other. And sometimes, we correct the moderators. This is good for the forum in general.

Ok, I get it, one should definitely read what one writes to avoid the errors, but I am happy if somebody helps me with something I have trouble to understand and if they make a little mistake in doing so I can get over it. Everybody has the right to make a mistake. :)

Without wishing to embarrass Teechar, this is the fourth or fifth post in which I have had to correct spacing around punctuation and incorrect usage of two punctuation marks at the end of a sentence. It's not a typo.

Please accept that the moderators here don't make a fuss about something unless we think it's needed.
