What is the meaning of “line” in the above citation?

In movies and plays, a line is a sentence or phrase.

Although it was just a small role, it got him into show business.
 
“He starred in…… “ means he was as a main performer, not just a small role. Am I right?

Yes. The original quotation misuses the word starred. Someone with only two lines isn't starring in a play.
 
Asad's telling the truth- the introductory sentence is sloppy writing as it is talking about the time before he became a star.
