Hi,

Can ''lookup'' be used with the word ''price''? If yes, what does it mean? I googled it but couldn't figure out.

Yes. Here is an example. Walmart and some other stores provide scanners where you can scan the barcodes of goods offered for sale and learn their price. They could be called price lookup points,

I suspect you're talking about the verb "look up" instead of the noun "lookup."

Following on from probus's example, e.g. "Scanners used in major stores can look up prices instantly."

How do you pronounce "look up prices"?
;-)

I can look up the price on a computer.
My computer has a "price lookup" facility.

I understand that, but this is Pronunciation and Phonetics, isn't it? This thread should be moved to a relevant section, in my opinion.

:)

You're right. I've moved it.

You stress and pause a little on the "p."

I must say that I also looked at this question from a pronunciation angle.

For me, the two words of "look up" are both unstressed, but the compound noun lookup has a stressed first syllable.

I note that this thread is now back in Pronunciation and Phonetics. I can't see anything in post #1 which suggests it was ever a question about pronunciation. However, only the OP knows. Untaught88 - was your original question about pronouncing "lookup/look up" and "price"? You asked if they could be used together and said you didn't know what the meant.

It wasn't about pronunciation. I just wanted to know the meaning because someone told me "look up" is used when prices go up. But I disagreed with him.

The price will "go up", not "look up".

Well, your title should have been "Price look up" or something similar then.

:)
