Hello everybody!

Suppose you have just eaten a plate ful of tasty pancakes with white cheese and sugar (my favourite version) or with something salty.
Unfortunately, you forgot to wash it down with something hot like for example a hot glass of tea. Now you are suffering from a stomach upset.

Could I say something like:

1. The pancakes are lying heavy on my stomach.

2. The pancakes are sitting heavy in my stomach.

Could I know your opinion on the subject?

It's been a long time since I've had any pancakes. What kind are they?
;-)

(I would probably use the second one (sitting).)

In AmE, the 2nd works and is the expression I frequently use for a 'heavy' meal. I'm not sure about the first in AmE. I don't know if I've heard it, but then it doesn't bother me.

edit: When something is mentally troubling you (some kind of problem to solve or situation to resolve), we do say 'X is lying/ lies heavy/heavily on my mind", though. That's probably why the first one doesn't bother me.
