make a great job?

I happened to come across this phrase a day or two ago while I was listening to the BBC podcasts.
Instead of saying 'you've done a good job' as a compliment, the presenter says
YOU'VE MADE A GOOD JOB OF THIS.
I was just not too sure if 'make' collocates with 'job' meaning the same as 'do'.

In BrE, "to make a great job [of something]" is quite common.
 
That would not be common in AmE.
 
In BrE, does 'making a good job' mean exactly the same as 'doing a good job'?
