Such a person is a cheapskate, a penny-pincher, a skinflint, a tightwad. He'll squeeze a nickel until the buffalo chokes, he's tighter than bark on a tree.

No one has mentioned the word miser so far. Does it mean this word differs from previously mentioned words? Do other words involve the meaning; hoarding money but looking like the poor just as the word miser does?

Miser means the same; it's probably the most formally correct word for such a person. Since such people evoke emotional reactions from people, there will always be new slang words or phrases which sound more insulting, and hence are more usable.

Yes. You can harden the G to make the word 'dinghy' (a kind of boat) - but that's a whole different word (and a whole different word class).

Yes, "miser" also describes a person who counts every penny, but it is a far more formal term. It is usually only used when describing some older, possibly literary, character like Ebeneezer Scrooge.
