[Vocabulary] mercenary / monetary

Hi,

What's the difference the words monetary and mercenary, if there's any? Could they be used interchangeably?

A- She did it purely for monetary reasons.
B- She did it purely for mercenary reasons.

'Mercenary' is rarely used as an adjective, especially in the context of money. It's almost exclusively used to refer to military service.
