Dear Teachers,

I've found in the novel this sentence: "Gabriella parked on a quiet, tree-lined
street in the mid-Eighties." What does it mean this "mid-eighties": years of the decade or the reference to one of the numbered streets (i.e. 82nd / 84th / 88th etc.) of New York (the action takes place in the Big Apple)?
Thank you in advance!

If you think about logically, which one makes more sense to you?

I suppose it depends on the book - was it about time travel?

either east (or west) 84th or 85th streets in New York.

John

Idle curiosity - Why not 86th as well?

I was thinking that of the ten streets from 80th to 89th, there would be two that would fall in the middle - 84th and 85th. From this block of ten streets, four streets would be to the south, two streets in the middle, and four streets to the north.
I wonder if a Manhattan real estate agent would say that an apartment for sale on 86th would be in the mid or upper 80's.

J

I can't answer for Manhattan real estate agents, but if I think of years or temperatures, the mid-eighties are 84, 85 and 86,
