Hello,

After using modal verbs, is it correct that the verbs remain in base form as the highlighted ones, except for "taking" and "eating."

After taking the medication, you should walk regularly and moderately, especially after meals, leave some time when taking more than one medication, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid eating a large meal before bedtime.

Thank you.

That works. From a formal syntactic standpoint, the coordinated verb phrases lie "beneath" the modal.

One more question, is it grammatically correct to rewrite the following:

"After taking" to "After you take"

"When taking more than one medication" to "when you take more than one medication"? I believe the original is more sophisticated and brief, isn't it?

Thank you @Annabel Lee and welcome to UE community & family. I know, I should have told you earlier.

Yes, the -ing form takes the subject of the main clause as its implied subject, and in this case that subject is you.

After taking it, you should walk.
--> You should walk after taking it.
--> You should walk after you take it.

Incidentally, there's one thing I dislike about the original. It's the when taking . . . phrase within the leave . . . verb phrase:

After taking the medication, you should . . . leave some time when taking more than one medication . . . .

I'd make the following edit:

After taking the medication, you should walk regularly and moderately, especially after meals, leave some time between doses if you are taking more than one medication, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid eating a large meal before bedtime.
