[Grammar] model ship - model is an adjective or a noun?

For the word, "model ship" is the "model" an adjective or a noun?

I would think it is an adjective because it tells us what type of ship.
Am I correct?

1) "model ship" is not a word. It is two words, and you can call it a 'phrase'.
I would think it is an adjective because it tells us what type of ship. I agree with you.
