Which one of the following sentences should I write?

1) We started early morning and went out distributing food to the hungry and stranded people.

2) We started early in the morning and went out distributing food to the hungry and stranded people.

I don't like "the hungry and stranded people". Are you talking about homeless people in general or does this have something to do with a natural disaster?

They are flood-striken people.

OK. Are they two different sets of people - some hungry, some stranded? If not, I wouldn't use "and". You went out to feed the hungry, stranded people.

No, they are both stranded and hungry.

In the first quote box above, you can see how it should be worded in that case.
