I'm pretty sure this sentence is grammatically correct:
Mexicans are most Spanish speakers. So why does DeePL translate only to es-es?

But a friend of mine said that Natives don't talk like that, and the right order would be the following:
"Most Spanish speakers are Mexicans".

But why? Is it a matter of native preference? Is there any grammar rule behind it?

Mexicans are most Spanish speakers. So why does DeePL translate only to es-es?
It might be grammatical but I had to read it twice before I understood the first sentence. I still haven't understood the second (the reference to DeePL).

You need "Mexicans make up the majority of Spanish speakers in the world" or something similar.

"Most Spanish speakers are Mexicans".

This is much better than the sentence you quoted earlier.

Edit: Typed too soon. See posts below.

Mexicans make up the majority of Spanish speakers in the world
.

That is grammatically correct but factually wrong.

I get what you mean. My sentence suggests Mexicans are an absolute majority, but they aren't.

I think Atari pitfall meant:
Mexico has more Spanish speakers than any other country.
Mexico has the largest Spanish-speaking population in the world.

Mexico has the largest Spanish-speaking population in the world.

I believe the ideal would be "the most", correct?

Mexicans are the most Spanish speakers. So why does DeePL translate only to Spain-Spanish?

Mexicans are the most Spanish speakers.
This isn't a natural sentence. Also, it suggests Mexicans make up more than half of the Spanish speakers in the world, which isn't true. They only have more Spanish speakers than any other single country.

For that reason, your friend's sentence doesn't work either.

Also, it suggests Mexicans make up more than half
Wouldn't this be the role of v"most"?

Most = Most of something. 51%.
THE most = The most part of something. Not necessarily 51%.

Eg:
Mexico: 31%
Spain: 22%
Colombia: 19%
Other countries: 28%

So Mexico has the most speakers than the orders, but not necessarily 51% or more.

You could say Mexico has the most Spanish speakers [of any country].

For some reason I prefer the ones I suggested earlier.

How about Mexicans are mostly Spanish speakers?

That isn't what Atari pitfall wants to say. He's trying to say Mexico has more Spanish speakers than any other country in the world.

You can say:

Mexico has the most Spanish speakers.

Or:

Mexico has more Spanish speakers than the others.

But you can't combine the two.

Hey, people!
I wanted to thank you all for your answers.

Turns out I likened "most" to another word in my language. And they are not equivalent, ahaha.

Thank you so much.

Please read the following dialogue.

Tarheel: Your English is too good for you to be doing that.
@Atari pitfall: It's too good for what?
Tarheel: What I mean is that when you were just starting out it might have been helpful, but now you're too advanced for that.
@Atari pitfall: So you think I should get out of the habit of comparing English words to words in my native language?
Tarheel: Yes, I do.
@Atari pitfall: OK.
