LETTER OF MOTIVATION FOR ERASMUS
MUNDUS MASTER IN IMPACT ENTREPRENEURSHIP (EMMIE)
Dear Erasmus Mundus Secretariat,

My interest in the Erasmus Mundus Master in Impact Entrepreneurship stems from a personal academic journey exploring the intersection of economic systems, environmental challenges and social realities. During my undergraduate studies in history and international studies, particularly through a course on the development of the contemporary economic system, I examined how global trade, growth and economic integration have contributed to environmental degradation by accelerating resource consumption and shifting pollution burdens to developing countries. This exposure led me to understand sustainability not merely as environmental protection, but as the design of systems that enable communities to thrive. This became my motivation to pursue entrepreneurship as a means of creating value that balances profit with positive social and environmental impact.

After graduation, my commitment to sustainability took shape during my National Youth Service Corps experience, where coordinating environmental sanitation activities exposed me to the environmental and health risks caused by textile waste and poor waste management in vulnerable communities. This experience showed me that environmental challenges require ethical and inclusive entrepreneurial solutions beyond policy alone. To build relevant skills, I joined the National Directorate of Employment’s Graduate Attachment Programme, where working with youth-focused enterprise teams deepened my understanding of purpose-driven entrepreneurship. Through hands-on experience in market research, sustainability practices and recycling initiatives, I learned how entrepreneurial solutions can be adapted to local realities.

I am motivated to join EMMIE because I want to learn how to design business models that address social and ecological challenges while remaining financially sustainable. I want to be equipped with the tools to measure impact, scale solutions and lead with integrity. The EMMIE programme captures the kind of entrepreneur I hope to become, one who builds with purpose, integrity and care for people and the planet. Its focus on the triple bottom line deeply resonates with my values, and I see the programme as a learning community where I can grow both professionally and personally.

I bring genuine curiosity, practical entrepreneurial experience and a strong commitment to sustainability. Beyond academics, I really enjoy intercultural exchange. I actively seek opportunities to learn new languages, to travel and engage with diverse communities, perspectives and cultures alongside a love for learning through research and collaboration. This program will provide me an opportunity to achieve that reality. I am eager to contribute my perspective and energy to this diverse academic environment while developing solutions that create meaningful and lasting impact. Most importantly, I want to contribute my lived experiences from Nigeria and learn alongside peers who are equally passionate about creating meaningful change.

Thank you for considering my application. I would be honored to be part of a program that does not just teach entrepreneurship, but shapes entrepreneurs who are driven by purpose, empathy and impact.

The submission deadline is on January 6, 2026. I used ai just to give me structure, I wrote it myself.

I used ai AI just to give me structure, but I wrote it myself.
I strongly advise you to rewrite it, in your own words (not as suggested by AI). Cut out the waffle and focus on substance (real examples, names of academic institutions, subject areas, topics of interest, dates, numbers, etc).

The people who read and assess such letters do not care much for AI-generated, highly padded texts which do not give real/actual info about the candidate.

Your goal should be not only to impress the assessor, but in fact to distinguish yourself from the other candidates. Why should the assessor choose you? Ask yourself that question and write down some ideas that you may come up with.

You can talk about your special achievements (academic and otherwise), social interests (that may indicate a team-minded personality), and future goals. Also, you may want to discuss why you chose this particular program over others.

Revise your letter and repost it below, and I'll be happy to help you further.

Hello, thank you so much for your suggestions. I've taken note of them and revised it.

My interest in the Erasmus Mundus Master in Impact Entrepreneurship stems from an academic journey exploring the intersection of economic systems, environmental challenges and social realities. During my undergraduate studies in History and International Studies, particularly through coursework on contemporary economic systems, I examined how global trade and economic integration contribute to environmental degradation by accelerating resource consumption and shifting pollution burdens to developing countries. This exposure challenged me to rethink my understanding of sustainability as not only a regulatory concern but an entrepreneurial responsibility also. This perspective has guided my ambition to develop inclusive, impact-driven enterprises addressing waste management and sustainable production challenges in Nigeria and similar emerging economies.

After graduating with an honours degree (CGPA 3.5), I translated my academic interest in sustainability into practice during my National Youth Service Corps experience, where I served as a co-coordinator for environmental sanitation. In this role,I led and mobilized over one hundred fellow corps members to organize sanitation activities that cleaned approximately one-third of the host community while raising awareness on proper waste disposal. This experience highlighted the environmental and public health implications of poor waste management, particularly textile waste and reinforced my conviction that effective solutions must integrate ethical entrepreneurship with community engagement. To further strengthen my practical skills, I joined the National Directorate of Employment’s Graduate Attachment Programme as a graduate intern. Over three months, I collaborated with instructors and interns to organize community product demonstration events and contributed to basic market research activities. During this period,I developed skills in project planning, data collection, record management and innovative problem-solving within community-based enterprises.

I am particularly motivated to join EMMIE because of its strong emphasis on the triple bottom line (people, planet and profit) along with its uniquely European, multi-institutional structure. Learning from established European circular economy models is especially relevant to my long-term goal to work in impact consulting with a focus on circular fashion and sustainable production systems. Among the partner institutions, I am especially drawn to ISM University of Management and Economics in Lithuania for its emphasis on individualized student support and modern teaching methods. Through EMMIE's integrated coursework and cross-cultural learning environment, I aim to develop abilities in impact measurement, sustainable business modeling and stakeholder-driven innovation, which are essential skills for advancing circular fashion initiatives that address textile waste challenges in developing economies.

This programme will also enable me to engage with diverse traditions, languages, art and cuisine across these host countries. I am eager to contribute my lived experiences from Nigeria while learning alongside peers from various backgrounds, fostering collaborative solutions to shared global challenges. I would be honoured to join the Erasmus Mundus community and to grow into an impact-driven professional equipped to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development across regions. Thank you for considering my application.

Thank you @teechar. I appreciate the time taken to review my letter.

You're welcome. Good luck with your application, and let us know if you need further help.

Yes, I'll need further assistance. As one of the documents to be submitted for the application, a letter indicating interest in full or partial funding is required. This is my letter below showing my interest in the full scholarship funding;

Dear Selection Committee,

I am applying for the full Erasmus Mundus scholarship because financial support is essential for me to fully participate in the EMMIE programme and turn its training into long term social and environmental impact. I see the scholarship not only as financial support, but as a public investment in individuals who aim to use entrepreneurship as a force for good. The programme’s attention to international cooperation, innovation, and sustainability matches my commitment to address development challenges through inclusive and entrepreneurial solutions.

Coming from a modest financial background, with both of my parents engaged in low-income occupations that limited the ability to cover cost of higher education, I had to support myself through university. I learned a vocational trade after my secondary education and worked alongside my studies, often balancing financial responsibilities with academic demands. Despite these challenges,I remained academically committed and graduated among the top 20 students in my class, developing resilience and self-reliance. However, the costs of a joint master’s degree across multiple European institutions make participation impossible without full funding. The Erasmus Mundus scholarship would remove this barrier and allow me to fully focus on academic excellence and skills development.

Beyond access, the scholarship would enable me to benefit from the programme’s unique multinational learning environment. Exposure to diverse academic perspectives, practical training and collaborative problem-solving across these countries is essential to developing the required skills to address complex global challenges. Being fully funded would allow me to engage deeply in coursework, research and applied projects without the distraction of financial insecurity, increasing the value of the opportunity.

In the long term, I intend to apply the knowledge and networks gained through this programme to contribute to sustainable economic development in my home country and also globally as I pursue a career in impact consulting that support sustainable production systems and circular fashion. The Erasmus Mundus experience would equip me with the strategic, ethical and practical tools needed to design and implement solutions that are locally grounded yet globally informed. If awarded this scholarship, I would approach it with a strong sense of responsibility, aware that it represents trust in my potential to contribute beyond personal advancement. I am committed to upholding the values of the Erasmus Mundus programme and to acting as an ambassador for international cooperation, knowledge exchange and sustainable development throughout my studies and professional career.

Thank you for considering my application.
