My car needs washed

In AmE we sometimes hear things like "My car needs washed" or "That old dresser needs refinished". I'd like to know whether my fellow teachers of AmE find this to be normal usage. In reply, please specify what region you are reporting on.

There's a Scottish presenter on a British home renovation programme who uses the construction. It sounds very unnatural to me and it's not used in English in England. (I know you asked about AmE teachers but I thought I'd add my opinion too.)

This hits me right at home. This is a feature of Pittsburgh English.

It's supposedly from the Scots-Irish who settled here.

That's perfectly normal here in the central US.
