[Idiom] 'My daughter was not a joiner'

What is the meaning of 'joiner' here? This is from the movie 'Edge of Darkness'.

"She wasn't an activist. Not the type. My daughter was not a joiner. She was more like me. If she did anything, whatever she did, she would have done it alone."

Does this mean she was a non-conformist and/or a loner (acting alone)?

A 'joiner' in this context means someone who likes to join organisations and clubs, etc. Her daughter did things her own way, and didn't feel the need to join other people's clubs to get things done.
She might have been a loner. There's not really enough information to decide that. A loner is someone who prefers to do everything alone. Not joining clubs is not enough to classify someone as a loner.
I don't think you could necessarily say she was a non-conformist either, since there are even clubs for non-conformists, and she wouldn't have joined that!
No, it just means she prefers to set her own agenda.

Like Groucho Marx. Not sure of the exact wording, but he is supposed to have said something like this - I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.
