Just a quick update about a couple of new features you should know about.
Since we've been running the UsingEnglish.com forum for over 20 years now, we have already provided answers to a great many questions, and sometimes we've answered them multiple times as popular questions are often asked repeatedly over time.
We have two new features that will help you access these answers immediately, without you having to post another question and wait for a reply.
1) The new Ask a question feature
Link: https://www.usingenglish.com/forum/askaquestion/
This provides a quick route to finding out if a question has been asked already. Click on the 'Ask a question' link, to the right of the forum menu bar:
You will be taken to a page with a search box. Simply start typing some key words and the page will show you any related threads and discussions that match. For example, if you type the two words 'strike' and 'meaning', you should see something like the below appear:
2) The new Similar Threads feature
At the bottom of threads you will see a new box showing you threads that are similar to the one you are browsing. This should help you explore other, related topics and usage. The below is from the recent thread titled 'By Default':
This feature also makes suggestions when you start to post a new thread, helping you see if the answer to your question is already available. Below you see a screenshot showing the new "Is this already being discussed?" box, which lists up to five discussions which could contain the answer you are looking for:
