Dear teachers,
Would you be king enough to help to me to catch the meaning of the ancient Shakspearean’s phrase “omittance is no quittance”?
They owe us 100 euro and we do no press for payment, but omittance is no quittance.
In my opinion, knowing that “ommittance” = the act of omitting, or the state of being omitted; forbearance; neglect and “quittance” = discharge from a debt or an obligation; acquittance, I may presume, to interpret the sense of the sentence above as : “negligence or oversight don’t free from blame the debtor."
Thanks for your efforts.
Regards,
V
