He is not leaving the company because he is not happy; ... he has enjoyed working there, but he has other reasons.

a) On the other hand
b) As a result
c) On the contrary

I think c is correct.

"C" is the best choice. However, that's not the way I would use that phrase. (See below.)

Bob: Why is John leaving? Is he unhappy with his work?
Sam: On the contrary! He likes his job. However, he got such a good offer from XYZ company that he couldn't turn it down. He'll have more responsibility, and he'll be getting a bigger paycheck.

I read it on a competitive exam paper. It was an old paper. I wanted to make sure "on the contrary" is the correct option.

Perhaps we're not being clear enough about the meaning of "source and author". What exam? What examining board produced the paper? Which year was it from? If you still have it, please post a screenshot. If you found it online, please provide a link.

Actually, I have joined lots of Whatsapp groups to prepare for job tests. People share multiple-choice questions of different topics. Sometimes, they are just texts. If the question is related to English and I'm not sure about the answer, I post here.

I imagine that many of these tests are poor quality.

With this particular question, there should be a comma placed after 'contrary' and the word 'on' should not start with a capital letter.

You could replace "On the contrary" with something longer that might be easier to understand. (See below.)

No, not at all! It's more like the opposite.
