Hello.

My book English File says correct the mistake. 175 "a hundred seventy-five." I corrected it and wrote "one" instead of "a". But adding "and" is optional if am not mistaken. If I am right regarding "one" instead of "a" why is wrong to use "a"?

Yes, we do. Some people would say "One hundred and seventy-five" and some would say "A hundred and seventy-five".

Then the missing "and" is the mistake the book is talking about. 3,009 it says "three thousand nine" I added "and" But removed it from 2,150 "two thousand and one hundred and fifty." I removed the "and". The first one. Is it correct?

Yes. In that number, there should be just one "and". The longer the number, the more "and"s there might be.

1,375 = one thousand, three hundred and seventy-five
102,375 = one hundred and two thousand, three hundred and seventy-five
204,102,375 = two hundred and four million, one hundred and two thousand, three hundred and seventy-five

No. That number needs one "and". You have it in the wrong place.

We've covered this extensively over the last few months, including the cases you've just asked about. Please don't post any more questions on this subject until you've reviewed those threads. I don't think you'll find anything we didn't cover, but if you do, you're welcome to post again.

I'll accept one more post to make sure you've written "2,150" correctly, then I'm closing this thread.

It should be "two thousand (no "and" between "thousand" and "hundred") one hundred and fifty." Like I said I removed the first "and". I had to correct the mistakes in that exercise. But if in American English it's not wrong to omit "and" in 175 "one hundred seventy-five" or in 3,009 "three thousand nine" then the book should not probably ask learners to correct "the mistakes".
You can close this thread od course. If you answer my question regarding American English before closing it, I will appreciate it.

As I'm sure I've said in previous threads, "two thousand one hundred and fifty" is fine in American English. Your textbook should state in its introduction which varieties of English it covers. If not, it's misleading students.
