What is the opposite of Anniversary? Anniversary counts up from an event in the past (annually), what do you call it when you are counting down to an event in the future (annually)?

The word "anniversary" simply means "returning annually". We simply add an ordinal number to create sentences like "It's our fifth wedding anniversary" so that's the only way it's "counting up".

I'm honestly not sure what you mean by "counting down to an event (in the future) annually". Please give us an example of something you count down to every year, and explain how there could be a single word for such an ongoing action (counting down).

Do you have a word for it in American English?

Deadline?

I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Could you give us a real-life example?
