"other people her age" = "other people who are the same age as her".
 
What's the difference if I say "other people of her age"?
 
There would be no difference in meaning but the original is more common in BrE. You'll just have used an extra word which doesn't really need to be there.
 
The original is more common in AmE, too, and there would be no difference of meaning with "of" added.

I've been thinking about this post, which I saw last night, and the conclusion I've come to is that "of" is deleted.

That would explain why we can have "She met someone her own age" but not, e.g.,*[strike]She met someone a professor.[/strike]
 
I thought of another example where a preposition is not needed before 'someone's age'.

'When I was your age ...'
