Is the word 'overpass' used for a bridge that pedestrians use to cross freeways?

It can be, but we usually call them 'pedestrian overpasses'. Without further context, I'd associate 'overpass' with vehicles.

I associate 'overpass' with pedestrians (like a long bridge), and 'flyover' with vehicles.

The only "flyover" in America is "flyover country," i.e. the bulk of the continent experienced from 30,000 feet by air travelers going from urban coast to urban coast.
