Hello to everybody,

Which voice, Passive or Active, should I use in a following example?

I'm cooking a dish. I cut vegetables and put them into a pot and put the pot into an oven.
1. Now my dish is cooking by itself.
2. Now my dish is being cooked by itself.

Which sentence is correct?

Vegetables are cooking in the pot.

Not a teacher.

Active: The vegetables are cooking.
Passive: The vegetables are being cooked.

Actually neither.
It's the "middle voice" or "ergative," a grammatical term not much used.

I cook the vegetables-- active
The vegetables were cooked by Sam -- passive
The vegetables are cooking -- ergative.

You can search for the term.

Active: The vegetables are cooking.
Passive: The vegetables are being cooked.
Thank you. Can you tell me, please, which one, Passive or Active, sounds more natural for native speakers?

Thank you very much! I've never heard about the middle voice.

Don't use the passive unless there is a good reason.
You don't know who did it.
You want to hide who did it.

I couldn't wish for a better explanation! Thank you very much.

Native speakers in common are so kind and polite, they don't want to hurt me correcting my mistakes. This is why this forum is priceless.
