[Grammar] Past participle

Here's another example that is confusing me.

We are allowed to have this <- this is correct.
However, it's incorrect to say it without the "ed" - we are allow to have this.

why?

The "why" questions are always the hardest to answer. This one is no easier than any other. However, the "are" tells you that you are talking about a state, condition, or situation. It might be easier to talk about how the words are used.


We allow parking there, but only at certain hours.
Some things are allowed, and some things are not.
I am not going to allow you to do that.
It is not allowed for you to use that computer.
I won't allow it!
You are not allowed to do that.

Are we making any progress?
