Hi guys,

How to use "Had been doing snd had done with since".

1) we had been waiting for the bus when we realised it had been more than 2 hours since we had left home.

"We were waiting for the bus when we realised it was more than 2 hours since we had left home."

But what about my formation I just want to know whether we have to use "past simple or past perfect" after since.

Did I use past simple or past perfect after "since"?

But I have read on many siites that if we use past perfect in the first part we don't have to use past perfect in the second part like "I hadn't met him since I left the school".

I didn't meet him since I had left my school.

Note that we use "the" before "past simple" "present perfect" etc.

Not a teacher nor a native speaker.

Please help native speakers

There are four clauses there. The tenses are: past perfect progressive, simple past, past perfect, past perfect.
"The second part" doesn't mean anything in relation to that sentence. What you have read is probably true in the context for which it was written.
