Today I met my friend Claire. I haven't seen her for a while. She told me she went to some English club meetings and people laughed at her pronunciation when speaking English. Sometimes she would meet a person who tells her that her pronunciation is good but most of the time, no.

I've also seen and experienced such things in the past so I said to her:

People are too focused on the pronunciation instead of thoughts when it comes to speaking English.

Is the italic sentence natural?

Today I met my friend Claire. I haven't seen her for a while. She told me she went to some English club meetings and people laughed at her pronunciation when speaking English. Sometimes she meets people who tell her that her pronunciation is good, but not often.

Or:

- Sometimes she'll meet someone who tells her . . . .

- Sometimes people tell her . . . .

- Sometimes someone tells her . . . .

- Sometimes someone will tell her . . . .

I've also seen and experienced such things in the past, so I said to her, "People are too focused on [STRIKE]the[/STRIKE] pronunciation instead of thoughts when it comes to speaking English."

Is the italicized sentence natural?
It's more natural without the.

It helps to put quotation marks around quotes.
