Hi,

So I was recently talking to a new colleague of mine who was calling me sir. I wanted her to call me by my first name so I said "Please address me as Mack". I knew the meaning of the verb "address" from written English but I am still thinking, "Did I use the right phrase"?

Is it common in oral English to say "Please address me as (first_name)"? Or is it not used at all? How can I say this politely to make people around me comfortable?

Regards,
Mack.

Hello Mack, and welcome. :)
It's rather formal to use "address", so it might defeat the purpose.
Just say: Please, (just) call me Mack.
You can omit just if you wish.

You are right that "Please adress me as ..." is unduly formal. How about "Please call me Mack" or "You can call me Mack." (Cross-posted.)

Mack, if she already knows that your first name is "Mack," you could just cut to the chase.

You: Here is that report that I promised you yesterday.

She: Oh, thank you, sir.

You (looking at her with a big smile): Mack (said with an emphasis).

She (with a chuckle): OK, Mack. Thanks a lot again.

Hi.

[STRIKE]So[/STRIKE] I was recently talking to a new colleague [strike]of mine[/strike] who was calling me "sir". I wanted her to call me by my first name so I said "Please address me as Mack". I knew the meaning of the verb "address" from written English but I am still thinking no comma here "Did I use the right phrase?"

Is it common in [STRIKE]oral[/STRIKE] spoken English to say "Please address me as (first no underline here name)" no question mark here or is it not used at all? How can I say this politely to make people around me comfortable?

[STRIKE]Regards,[/STRIKE] Unnecessary.
[STRIKE]Mack.[/STRIKE] Unnecessary. We can see your username.

Please note my corrections above. Please don't fall into that annoying trap that some native speakers have of randomly starting sentences with "So".
