Dear friends,
can you please help me with the lyrics for two songs fom Asterix and Cleopatra. These are for English subtitles where the lyrics are missing. I will distribute the version with the lyrics and everyone will be able to have it.
There are no traces of these two songs in the net and all available subtitles either don't contain the songs at all or give nonsence like:
Join the first, yum, eyesome meal!
Every voice joys luxury!
Skin, her skin now soft and real!
And we learn some history.
Cleopatra, lovely queen!
For the day, this may we hope!
Queen, the call of wellknown highness!
Cleopatra's lion heads in...
King of all the beast species!
With the strength of twenty great men!
And it worthies...
as a little pray!

We need only the lines form the songs, not what characters say in between. If you can help us many people willing to watch this toon in English will be most grateful.
song1 ? ?? ??????.?????
song2 ? ?? ??????.?????

Thank you.

So far we have some bits:

----------
Every
of luxury

as soft as silk
As we learn from history.

Cleopatra, lovely queen

may we hope
In the cause of royal hygiene
That you will accept this soap.

Cleopatra's lion is he, then,

King of all the beasts is he.
With the strength of twenty great men
And as much sense as a little flea.

This is the best I can do for now, Romeo.
I can't quite get a couple of the phrases.

Song 1.

Jars of perfume, ass's milk
Every bath-time luxury
Keeps her skin as soft as silk
As we learn from history

Cleopatra, lovely Queen
… … …, may we hope
In the cause of royal hygiene
That you will accept this soap

Cleopatra's lion is here, then
King of all the beasts is he
With the strength of twenty great men
And as much sense as a little flea

Song 2, in part.

When you're eating well, you're well
When you're eating well, you're well
… … boar, bring us plenty more

If you're off your food, you're ill
If you're off your food, you're ill
Loss of appetite is a dreadful blight
If you're off your food, you're ill

Whatever old proverbs say
Eating to live is all wrong
Listen to us and be gay
Living to eat is our song

When you're eating well, you're well
As the doctors always tell
Those who feel the need, for a good big feed
When you're eating well, you're well

Greedy guts both large and small
Find that other things may fall
Eating never will, fail to fill the bill
If you're off your food, you're ill

Thank you very much! This 1st song is perfect. Asses' milk - that's fantastic. Certainly! Of course!
Dear friends, please help us with the 2nd half of the 2nd song. You'll make this world a bit better, because many fans of Asterix will stop wasting time trying to comprehend it with no final satisfactory result. :) All to their despair.

Hi Romeo, this is the best I can do for the rest of song #2. In both songs it's very difficult to catch certain words.
I've left out parts that I can't get at all, and put <?) where I'm not confident of my guess for the preceding word or two.

Obelix, you are my love
Soft and …… like a dove <?)
Don't forget, first course <?) and the second course
Queen Cleopatra is yours

Cleo, your nose is so sweet
So is a nice joint of meat
Sausages are tops, so are steaks and chops
Meat is what I like to eat

Any good meal without cheese
Is like a bird that can't fly
It's like a wood without trees
It's like a girl with one eye

If you're off your food, you're ill
If you're off your food, you're ill
Pay your respects, please, to the king of cheese
If you're off your food, you're ill

When the camel passes by
When the camel passes by
Make as if <?) … …, eat your sustenance
When the camel passes by

If you're off your food, you're ill
If you're off your food, you're ill
Loss of appetite, is a dreadful blight
If you're off your food, you're ill

Never forget what we say
Eat with will while you may
…… boar, bring us plenty more
When you're eating well, you're well

Dear JMurray,
thank you so much. It's like the Rosetta stone mystery been solved. :)

In both songs it's very difficult to catch certain words.
Yes, the toon is a bit old (but immortal!) and the songs are rather cacophonic. Many people I know speak English fluently, but had great difficulties with making out anything but short bits of these songs.
:-D
