Which of the following sentences is more formal?

1) The mangoes aren't ripe yet.

2) The mangoes aren't yet ripe.

This question sounds very strongly like someone has told you that sentence 2 is more formal and you're trying to check whether it's true. Is that right?

Is your aim here to ask about these specific sentences or is it to know more generally about positions of yet? If we can understand where your question comes from, we can answer it better.
