Hi! Just want to know, if I want to refer to something that happened in July this year, could I just say 'last July' or could that cause someone to think it was in last year's July?

Welcome to the forum, Ajnestrella.

'Last' is an adjective, not a preposition.

There is no definitive answer to your question. Say 'in July this year' or 'in July last year' to be certain of being understood.
