[Grammar] preposition 'of' or 'for' which one to use?

some of the sites say "abbreviation of" but at the same times some other sites say "abbreviation for" are they both correct? if not which one should i use?

It depends on what context you use it in.
"Oct is the abbreviation of October"
" Abbreviations for most units of measurements use small letters and periods."
" what the abbreviation for the International Olympic Committee :'_"IOC"
