Pronouncing the word Fiery

Hi!

On viewing a video on Youtube from the channel Anglophenia on Britain's mystical creatures the first one was Black Chuck a dog which was described as to have fiery eyes. The host on that video pronounced it F - ai - ry. I always thought it was pronounced F - ea - ry. Glad to know which is the correct or if one is British and the other American.

I haven't heard this pronunciation in the UK.

Tdol - I suppose since Fierce is pronounced F - ea - rce I naturally assumed that Fiery would be too, but come to think of it and after listening to the soundclips it naturally has to be f - ai - ry since it is derived from Fire.

Yes, it's derived from fire so it's pronounced "fire-ree".

Exactly. The vowel cluster in 'diary' is a triphthong; in 'wiry' it's a diphthong - as I say it.

I agree that they're not all exact rhymes, but diary and fiery are, for me.

In my pronunciation, although the vowel in fire, like higher is a triphthong, fiery, like diary and wiry is closer to a diphthong.
