Hello everybody!

Do you find the sentence "Providing efficient lighting is a precondition for starting welding work" easy to understand?

I meant to say that "Welding work may start on condition that efficient lighting is provided".

Do you agree with me?

Thank you.

Efficient lighting is nice, but not as important as sufficient lighting.

I don't like 'efficient lighting', either.

Doesn't the brilliant light of the welding torch itself provide sufficient light for the welder to work by?

Technically, yes. Presuming the OP refers to electric arc welding, once the arc is struck and the helmet lens goes dark, the arc provides light enough to do the welding. Additional lighting is needed before the arc is struck and after the welding pass is completed so the welder can work safely, set up the work, and judge the quality of his/her work.

I'd drop 'Providing'. Sufficient/efficient lighting is a precondition, but the welder isn't necessarily the one who provides it. Maybe it's there already in the factory, provided by the management.

Having sufficient lighting is a precondition for starting welding work.

How about a simple "There must be sufficient lighting before starting any welding work."
