Hi everyone,

It's said that native speakers usually add some redundant stuff while they are talking, for instance, i suppose I have to say blah blah..

My question is, what is the difference between these expressions I guess/I suppose/I think? Are they interchangeable?

Also, can I use any of the following expressions without confusing my listeners? That is to say, are they correct in grammar and interchangeable too?
1. I suppose I have to say
2. I suppose I would have to say
3. I suppose I gotta say
4. I suppose I'd like to say
5. I suppose I could (possibly) say

Thanks.

Not necessarily interchangeable.

I guess - speculative

I suppose - contemplative

I think - definitive

1. I suppose I have to say

[contemplative] must say

2. I suppose I would have to say

[contemplative] "would" serves as an auxiliary function in this scenario, expressing a presupposed preference

3. I suppose I gotta say -

[contemplative] Colloquial speech. Technically the same meaning as "have," but this conveys a self generated desire to express oneself

4. I suppose I'd like to say

[contemplative] Combination of 2 & 3.

5. I suppose I could (possibly) say

[contemplative] indicating a possibility or opportunity for expression
