Sentence: I love the way educated elites, who have excellent command over the English languages, scoff at the loonies.

Question: Is the sentence grammatically correct? Is the use of comma correct in the sentence?

Thanks

Yes, it's grammatical. The author provides some additional information about "the educated elites," saying they all have an excellent command of English.

What it means, however, is entirely unclear.

"English languages?" I'm only aware of there being one English language. I would look up "command over" in a style guide as well.

I missed the plural languages.

Yes, of course that should be singular.

NOT A TEACHER

May I most respectfully remind you that we can say, "There are many Englishes." That is, there are many varieties

of English: American, British, Australian, Indian, Nigerian, etc. In fact, there is one variety (I forget its name) that

consists of just enough words and grammar to allow businessmen from any country to communicate with one another.

The goal of those businessmen is to make money, not to learn something called "English."
