Should it be "I have never ridden a horse" or "I never rode a horse" without "on"?

I was wondering if both are correct.

Both are fine. I don't think any native speaker would use "on" when speaking about riding horses.

Then using it is wrong, isn't it?

Try to break your habit of asking questions with question tags.

Is it wrong to use it? would be far more natural.

OK. You said that BrE omit "horse" but is it possible in my sentence?

Both OK with or without "on".
