No- she opened the letter by ripping it (presumably the envelope).

Hello, I am looking up the dictionaries nowadays. I am confused with this sentence.

rip - definition of rip by Macmillan Dictionary

"Jodie ripped the letter open"

What is the meaning of "the letter open", a letter has already opened?
You can look at it as a phrasal verb, to rip open. The phrase is not "the letter open".
"She ripped open the letter." "He fell onto the bayonet and his guts ripped open."
