Hi dear experts,
Could you paraphrase or say in other words the sentence below. Particularly the underlined part. I need to translate it into my native language, but I can't get the meaning. It is about routers.

"Some of the ports are bays which can be fitted with different media transceivers, powerful processing units and very sophisticated network software, allowing many different options to be configured."

I’m not a teacher, nor yet an expert.

Hi snade17,

fitted = satisfying certain requirements, as for selection: eligible, fit1, qualified, suitable, worthy

fit with = fit out = equip, furnish, supply with equipment, machinery

Regards,

V.

"Some of the ports are bays which can be fitted with different media transceivers, powerful processing units and very sophisticated network software, allowing many different options to be configured."

Regards,

V.

Hi spade17,

Such being the case, when you want to say something about a network device that forwards packets from one network to another, you have to use “panel” in the place of the very ambiguous and tricky “bay”.;-)

bay (n) = booth, compartment, niche, nook, opening, recess, stall

V.
