[General] score in the top 30% meaning

What does it mean when someone says the following: "you must have a score in the top 30%." ? (it is related to my UK university degree)

I think it means that my final university score must be a First Class having therefore at least an average of 70%... so it can be considered in the top 30%?

Am I guessing right or am I wrong?

It means in an ordered list with the best scores at the top, your score would have to be among the top 3/10.

In your quotation, remove the period after the percent sign and the space before the question mark.

I don't know what you mean by your university score or first class but in the US, if you have a score that is in top 30%, commonly known as the 70th percentile, that means you scored better than 70% of the people who took the test.
