Hi,

Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

1. don’t you get a backache from working so long hours.

2. Next Monday is Valentine ’s Day.

3. I will be there on the Monday two weeks later.

Thanks,

MG.

I am not a teacher.

1. working such long hours

2. OK

3. I will be there two weeks from Monday. (AmEng)

I need to understand this better. Let us say today is Jan 12, 2011 (Wednesday). I am telling the listner that I will be at her place on Monday Jan 24, 2011. So there is one more Monday ( Jan 17) in between.

I am not sure which Monday I am referring to in 'from Monday'.

The 24th would be a week from Monday. I'm pretty sure the Brits say "Monday week" for that. I always mean the next Monday coming up when I say "a week from Monday" or "two weeks from Monday". On Wednesday, January 12, next Monday was January 17, and a week from Monday was January 24. Two weeks from Monday was January 31.

By the way, apparently Americans get a backache where Brits simply get backache, to judge by Rover_KE's post.

When in doubt, stipulate the exact date. It saves a lot of time and uncertainty.
