A black eye is a bruise around the eye socket, sometimes including a discolored sclera.

People can have dark brown eyes. The iris is never really black. That would look very strange.

I looked up "black eyes" on the internet and saw some images of purportedly black eyes. But they were, in my opinion, not black but dark brown. (If the hair is black but the eyes are a different (lighter) color the eyes are not black.)
