Do we say 1-"Mary is as taller as he or him??
2-"John is taller than he or him"?

It's "as tall as" not "as taller as". "taller than" is correct.

You'll get vigorous argument on this.

She is taller than he is. No one finds this incorrect.

She is taller than he. Some people insist that "than" is a conjunction (only) and that you must use "he" with the implied "he is." Others find this "hyper correct" and that it makes you stand out as a snob.

She is taller than him. Some people insist that "than" is intended as a preposition in this sentence and only the object form works. The people who believe than is a conjunction find this an example of decay of the proper use of English.

Decide which group you want to offend, or use "he is."

thanks, but which is the right pronoun in both sentences?

NOT A TEACHER

(1) The teacher and the moderator have both given us excellent

advice.

(2) This non-teacher humbly suggests that you -- as a learner

who wishes to speak "perfect grammar book English" -- follow the

"rules":

Mary is as tall as he. (= as he is tall.)

John is taller than he. (= than he is tall.)

You may also say as/than he is.

(3) As the moderator told you, there are many viewpoints. I

am guessing that people who write university-level articles

follow the traditional "rules." This non-teacher suggests that

you do, too -- at least, in elegant writing. If you do so,

many people will greatly respect your understanding of traditional

"rules." In fact, some educated native speakers might say of you:

Wow! Eddy understands English grammar better than I.

(= I do)

Respectfully yours,

James

P.S. Don't worry about being called a "snob." In this life, it is

impossible to satisfy everyone. Be courteous and respectful to

those who disagree with you, and then continue to speak what

you feel is correct English.

TheParser is entitled to his opinion, but it is just that - an opinion.

My own opinion is that Barb's words are sound: Decide which group you want to offend, or use "he is."

If you add the verb at the end, you satisfy all parties.

Hey bro, thanks a million and once small sorry to bother you guys. "One thing is for sure, "one is never to old to learn new things or to ask what he/she doesn't know." I might be a little disrespectful by asking or posting a lot of questions. For what reason do i have to ask many questions because i bend to know new and undoubtable things and here{this forum} gave me this great opportunity to express my doubts. Respectfully yours, i deeply love this forum. Calling me a snob is just a way to tell me i have to work extract hard. hehehehehe! Thanks all thesame.
have a nice day bro.
