Hi dear teachers!
My friend just asked me a question: which one is correct?

1. She needs hospitalizing.
2. She need hospitalizing.
3. She need to get hospitalized.
4. She needs to hospitalize.
5. She need hospitalize.
6. She needs hospitalization.

To me, only the numbers 3 and 6 seem to be correct, but I'm not sure about the numbers 1,5 and 6.
Would you please resolve my doubts?
Thanks.

Hi dear teachers!
My friend just asked me a question: which one is correct?

1. She needs hospitalizing. Used sometimes in BrE.
2. She need hospitalizing. Incorrect.
3. She need to get hospitalized. Possible, but not perfect (use of "get")
4. She needs to hospitalize. Incorrect.
5. She need hospitalize. Incorrect.
6. She needs hospitalization. Correct.

To me, only the numbers 3 and 6 seem to be correct, but I'm not sure about the numbers 1,5 and 6.
Would you please resolve my doubts?
Thanks.

I would add "She needs to be hospitalized".

Note: BrE spelling = hospitalised.

For a US view:

She needs to be hospitalized would be my first choice, and
She needs hospitalization would be my second, with none of the others possible/natural.

When emsr2d2 said 'Used sometimes in BrE' the whole message may not have got across! In Br Eng it would be much more normal to say 'He should be in hospital' or 'He needs to be taken to hospital'. The only people in my Br Eng-speaking family who regularly say 'hospitalize' live abroad.
