Today, I'm asking you one of my all-time curious questions, which is "she's pretty to me? or for me?"


I think there's a difference between two.
But, it's very hard to say as a learner.

Neither of them is terribly natural. I would just say "I think she's pretty". That shows that it's your personal opinion, not a statement of fact.

But, as in the song "You're beautiful to me" , we do say "She's so beautiful."

Like,
A: (on the street) Hey, look at her over there. She's so ugly.
B: Shut up. She's pretty for me/ to me.

It may be gramatically wrong as you say. But I've seen a lot of people say that. Don't you think so?

It makes sense now. For and to are interchangeable in that case and the difference is very slight. Though I would use to as it implies an opinion.

"She's beautiful to me" means that your opinion of her is that she is beautiful.

"She's beautiful for me" implies that she did something to make herself look good just because you would appreciate it.

1) "She's pretty to me. means...
She looks pretty to me.
I think she's pretty.'

Maybe someone else thinks she's not pretty, so I say 'She's pretty to me.'

2) She's pretty for me.
This means that she made herself pretty for my benefit or enjoyment, or in an attempt to make me like her.

Maybe she often is plain looking or unattractive. But now she put on makeup, had her hair done and is wearing nice clothes.

And I get it.

However, "She's too beautiful for me" means "She's too beautiful for me to be her boyfriend."?

I've just googled "she's pretty for me." and found out that a person posted "Is she too pretty for me?" with his and her photo each.

Not to confuse you, just out of my curiosity.
And hopefully that doesn't kill my cat or me.

He wants to know if people think they are unsuitable for each other.
