Is the following sentence acceptable?

While I was trying my best to restrain my fury and act as if nothing were on my mind, deep in my heart was simmering with rage.

You need a subject for the last phrase so I would place "I" between heart and was.

While I was trying my best to restrain my fury and act as if nothing were on my mind, deep in my heart I was simmering with rage.

That's right.
