I saw the following sentence in my textbook yesterday,

Jane, who had been interested in astrology since entering college, asked Christine to find out when her classmates were born.

I have been wondering which of the following sentences is also correct.

(1) Jane, who had been interested in astrology since she entered college, asked Christine to find out when her classmates were born.

(2) Jane, who had been interested in astrology since she had entered college, asked Christine to find out when her classmates were born.

The reason why I use "had entered" here is to emphasize the fact that the action "enter" comes before "ask."
But it seems weird to have "past perfect tense" in both clauses connected by "since"

Can someone help me out?
Thanks a lot!

Jane, who had been interested in astrology since she had entered college, asked Christine to find out when her classmates were born.
The past perfect is unnecessary and unnatural in the red part.

Thanks for your prompt reply!

But I would like to know whether sentence (1) is correct or not. (Jane, who had been interested in astrology since she entered college, asked Christine to find out when her classmates were born.)

Is it OK to use "since she entered college" when this action actually happens before "asked Christine"?

Thanks again. :)
